Healthy reflection requires the most delicate balancing act. If we focus too much on our thoughts and feelings, we become self-centered and self-focused. If we fail to truly acknowledge our thoughts and feelings, we will inevitably feel ignored, overlooked and voiceless.
Just as the piano needs major and minor keys in order to hold a complete scale of notes, we need the proper balance in our introspection.
As the photo demonstrates, however, the key lies in remembering that sometimes, we have spent long hours gazing at a reflection….occasionally, even to the point of obsession…because we have forgotten that the true source of light is where we find our identity, our wholeness, our peace.
Our feelings and thoughts don’t define us. Our identity is found in whose we are. He said, “I am the light of the world”. John 8:12.
May your searching and introspection never distract you from the source of light, and may your heart find rest, not in the reflection, but in the light.
Today, I am thankful for the reminder that I am a child of the light.
